Embark on a day filled with cultural exploration and engaging activities in Marrakech. Begin with a visit to the tropical Majorelle Gardens, meticulously restored with the influence of Yves St. Laurent, and delve into Berber culture at the small yet impressive museum within Jacques Majorelle's former home. Optionally, contribute to the community with a visit to Al Karam, a non-profit organization supporting children in need. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the Doukkala medina, visiting a traditional riad where a multi-generational family resides. This day promises a delightful blend of cultural discovery and meaningful interactions.
Partake in a culinary adventure with a Moroccan cookery class with an experienced local chef. The journey from Marrakech to Ourika Valley is a scenic escape into the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. The drive itself is only about an hour and a half, allowing you time to soak in the beauty of the changing landscape. Out of the bustling city, you'll see traditional Berber villages clinging to the hillsides and olive groves blanketing the valley floor. Your accommodation here is a kasbah, a traditional Moroccan fortress, offering a blend of authentic and luxurious experiences for guests. You will have free time to explore Ourika. We recommend a visit to the Biological Garden of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, where you can learn about the plants, their benefits, and how essential oils are bottled. A specialty is the argan oil, which is extracted from Moroccan argan trees and is prized for its culinary and cosmetic uses.
Indulge in a hearty breakfast at your hotel before embarking on a two-hour guided hike in the Atlas Mountains with a local mountain guide. They will ensure your safety on the trails, navigate the sometimes-challenging terrain, and share their knowledge of the local flora, fauna, and Berber history. Mules (10£_) can be a great option for those who want to conserve energy for sightseeing or have physical limitations, allowing you to fully enjoy the breathtaking panoramas and hidden gems of the area. After your hike, you can relax over a picnic lunch before heading back to Ourika to unwind at your leisure.
Saddle up for a unique adventure on a two-hour camel trek this morning. Gently swaying atop your camel, you'll have a chance to see the valley from a different perspective, taking in the vastness of the sky, the patchwork of olive groves, and the looming peaks of the Atlas Mountains. Your guide will lead the way, sharing stories about the region's history and culture as you explore hidden trails and soak up the beauty of the Ourika Valley. This unforgettable experience is a perfect way to combine sightseeing with a touch of culture. Return to Marrakech?
